iWalk.2020.02.14 Delightfully ironic ending on South Main Street, Hurricane

The name 'South Main Street' conjures up a mental picture of a thoroughfare bustling with the daily activities of commerce, culture, and socialization. The reality is a quiet residential backwater that ends at a fence with a private property sign. The irony sums up the quirky nature of this town, which delights me. Gradually the rural parts of the esttlement are being urbanized and the urban parts are being homogenized to resemble a perceived norm. The only constant is change.

At the opposite end of South Main Street on the junction with SR59—the road connection between Washington County, UT, and Mohave County, Arizona—sits the Bradshaw Hotel, which is now a museum. The town changed gradually over its first nine decades of existence and has experienced exponential growth and change over the last twenty years. Only time will tell how much of the original character of the place will remain as progress continues.
