iRide.2020.03.15 Adjustments

Last evening there was a watery sunset. Today the unsettled weather seemed to have settled in for the foreseeable future. The lightshow all across the valley was changing so quickly that I was doing more clicking with my shutter-finger than I was pedaling with my feet. I had decided to incrementally adjust everything on the bicycle whose position impacts my riding comfort. That was another distraction with even more stops.

Small changes can make a big difference: repositioning the handlebar controls made room for my big, clumsy hands to maneuver; lowering the seat one centimeter and bringing the saddle one centimeter forward gave me a better riding position. I still need to relax my upper body and avoid hunching my shoulders. I am going to channel the pro rider who has the straightest back in the peloton and I will know my position is optimal when it all comes together. I think after the changes I made today that I am almost there now.

I was mildly surprised at the end of the ride to find that I had covered more miles than I was expecting and that my net riding speed was not much different from my usual slow plod. The overall elapsed time was higher; it made it look as though I had been out for a picnic.
