The headline photo was taken on Sunday, but I was reluctant to identify that mesa in the background: it is Gooseberry Mesa. I called at Over the Edge Sports here in town to pick up some chain lube and Quentin, the OTEDGE owner, kindly identified it for me. The mountain is a favorite with MTB (mountain bike) riders. Todd Goss has details and photos.
It was another fractured day punctuated by appointments and errands to be run. I am lucky that I have so few demands on my time, but the last couple of days has made me understand the effort required of those who lead busy lives and try to allocate time for exercise. I had my chauffeuse leave me at my last call and I walked home. I am such a lucky fellow.
The last couple of days we have had cold winds from the north. Walking home in shorts and a walkers wind jacket was comfortable because I was headed south. Turning into the wind, I was immediately aware of the chill factor. This is even more apparent on a bicycle, so I opted to ride for a second day on the indoor static cycle despite the glorious sunshine. This makes me understand the toughness and discipline shown by those hardy souls who venture out in inclement weather. I am such a lucky fellow.
CORRECTION 2020.03.07: An earlier version of this post, due to a miscommunication by the author, misidentified the mesa in the headline photo as Little Creek Mountain. The correct identification is Gooseberry Mesa. The MTB trail goes to the rocky point on the top left.
