iRide.2020.03.31 Allclear

Today was the first day in a while that the Pine Valley Mountains have not been capped by cloud. This was also the first day this year that the sunshine was the full 650K that matches the D65 standard for sRGB, which is to say it was bright and white with sunglasses and sunscreen being advisable for self-protection along with social distancing until the 'All Clear' is sounded for the coronavirus pandemic threat.

The historical context of the 'All Clear' makes an interesting comparison with today. Back during the 1914-18 Great War (later known as the First World War after there was a WWII), the British government used flares and bugles to communicate safety protocols to the people. You may read that history in Chapter Eight of an online eBook, 'Bugles and Scouting' by Bruce MCCRAE. The chapter starts on page fifty-six of an unindexed PDF, so the best way to access it is to scroll down to the end of the document and then scroll back up to page fifty-six.

Today we have much more sophisticate communication channels such as radio, TV, telephones, and the Internet. More than ago, Dr Michael Greger warned of the potential danger of a pandemic in a lecture entitled 'Pandemics: History & Prevention'. Communication channels only work if they are used. This time, the governments of the world clearly failed in their primary duty to protect their citizens. I hope I live to read the early histories that will be published for the 2020 war against the coronavirus pandemic.
